United Taps’ tap dance website has lessons, videos, a tap dance dictionary, a syllabus, choreography, combinations, steps, and tap dance music made by a tap dancer for tap dancers. Our free online tap dance dictionary has videos of over 280 tap dance steps broken down by a professional tap dancer! We also have an online video syllabus which organizes all the steps in the dictionary by level, and gives short-hand notation for each step. Any tap dancer can benefit from these resources, even professional tap dancers that have been doing this for years.
In addition to that, we have free online videos of classes and combinations for all dancers of all levels available at our sister site tapdancelessons.com (which I also own and run). If you are interested in tap dance choreography, I have an acapella routine for sale in our Online Store, and of course your welcome to use any of the material from the free combinations I offer in your own dance.
I encourage all of you tap dancers to go to the free discussion board and forum. Many people participate in conversations about steps, teaching techniques, shoes, and music. It’s also a great place to make your voice heard if you have any ideas or suggestions of how to make this site better.
In the coming months I am going to be working on a complete lesson series for every level of tap dancer. This is going to take a lot of time, but in the end I think it will provide a more complete learning experience as compared to the periodic combinations and the occasional class I currently offer. I am also in the process of creating individual pages for each and every step in the tap dance dictionary with back-up links in case another video host goes down (this happened early February).
If you are interested in the story of how this website came to be, and what it’s been through, you can click on the Rod Howell Tap Dancer link and scroll down for all the gritty details. You’ll also find more information about myself and what I’ve done with this art form. I also like to write music. In fact all the combinations I offer for free online are to music I’ve either written or produced. You can buy the music I use in my online classes and combinations as digital downloads in my Online Store.
I hope all tap dancers enjoy this site and will find it useful. I very much like to get feedback about what works and what doesn’t, what you like and dislike, and any other features you’d like to see in the future. Feel free to email me at the address above - it’s right underneath the video (you have to actually type in the address - this prevents spam), I’d love to hear from you. Thank you for stopping by and enjoy the site.
