This step forms the basis for many, many steps including the flap and shuffle. It is very important to master the brush and to be able to do it cleanly.
Tip: To get the brush clean, make sure you lift the foot off the floor immediately after it hits, if it stays down it will scrape. Also, don’t hit the brush too far behind you as that will increase your chances of scraping.
